The Hertz Fellowship includes 5 years of funding and the freedom to pursue innovative projects in applied physical and biological sciences, mathematics, and engineering. The goal is for fellows to be financially independent and free from traditional restrictions of their academic departments to promote innovation in collaboration with leading professors in the field. The fellowship covers tuition and a personal stipend for up to 5 years.

Eligibility
- Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. permanent resident
- Be a college senior, first-year graduate student, or in a gap year, preparing to apply to graduate school
- Intend to pursue a Ph.D. in the applied physical or biological sciences, mathematics, or engineering
- Intend to direct your studies towards understanding and solving major near-term problems facing society
