The Beinecke Scholarship was established to provide substantial scholarships for the graduate education of young individuals of exceptional promise. The program seeks to encourage and enable highly motivated junior-year students to pursue opportunities available to them and to be courageous in the selection of a graduate course of study in the arts, humanities and social sciences.

$35,000 ($5,000 after accepting an offer of graduate study and $30,000 for up to 5 years while in graduate school)Annual Number of Scholarships Awarded

Eligibility
- Be a U.S. citizen or U.S. national from American Samoa or the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.
- Be a college junior
- Have a documented history of being eligible to received need-based financial aid during your undergraduate year.
- Plan to enter a research- or creative-focused master’s or doctoral program in the arts, humanities, or social sciences.
- Note: students in the social sciences who plan to pursue graduate study in neuroscience or clinical psychology should not apply for a Beinecke Scholarship.
- Demonstrate superior standards of intellectual ability, scholastic achievement, and personal promise during their undergraduate career.

- Knowledge and fit of proposed graduate programs
- Quality and breadth of recommendations

University Endorsement Process
University of Utah endorsement is a competitive process and nomination is not guaranteed. Students seeking endorsement must submit certain application components by the University of Utah’s deadline.
Note: The University of Utah can nominate one student for this scholarship each year. As such, all applicants must submit their application materials by the University of Utah’s deadline and participate in its endorsement process.
